This 1928 Indian Scout 45, refurbished circa 2014 by John Eagles of Orange County, California, is powered by a rebuilt 0.7L (45ci) V-twin engine producing 18 horsepower, paired with a hand-shifted three-speed transmission, a rebuilt multi-plate wet clutch, and a gear primary drive. Refinished in black with red and gold accents over a matching double-cradle frame, it features a brown leather Mesinger solo saddle and was serviced in August 2023 with an oil change, idle and chain adjustments, brake lever tuning, and lubrication of control cables and pivot points. Acquired by the selling dealer post-refurbishment, this Series 101 Scout is now offered with refurbishment records, a 1928 California license plate, removed components (engine guard, Indian-branded Corbin speedometer, rearview mirror), and a clean title.
The motorcycle’s exterior showcases a black finish with red side panels on the one-piece fuel/oil tank, gold hand-painted Indian script and stripes, and a GTL epoxy liner. Features include a valanced front fender, a headlight, a taillight, a Klaxon horn, a toolbox, folding footboards, both rear and side stands, and a two-into-one exhaust with polished head pipes and a black fishtail muffler. The bike was professionally detailed in 2024, highlighting its restored condition. Black drop-center 18″ wire-spoke wheels, mounted with 4.00×18″ Coker Indian-script tires, are paired with a triple-stem leaf spring fork and dual seat-post springs for suspension. Braking is provided by an internal expanding front drum and an external contracting rear band brake, with pivot points lubricated in 2023.
The black-finished handlebar features a left-side twist-grip spark advance, a right-side twist-grip throttle, and a front brake lever, with lubricated control cables. A dash panel on the steering stem extension houses an ammeter, a headlight switch, and a domed dash light, powered by a six-volt system with a reproduction cloth wiring harness. The 45ci V-twin, rebuilt with a Schebler DLX51 carburetor, Splitdorf S2 magneto, and Splitdorf DU-7 generator, uses a total-loss oiling system. The transmission and clutch were also rebuilt, ensuring reliable power delivery to the right-side drive chain.
