This 1929 Harley-Davidson Model J sidecar rig, refurbished over a 10-year period and completed circa 2010, is powered by a rebuilt 1.0L (989cc) F-head V-twin engine, rated at 9 horsepower, paired with a hand-shifted three-speed manual transmission and a rocker foot clutch. Finished in matching green with red and white stripes, it features a meticulously restored bike and sidecar, acquired by the seller in 2015. The rig is now offered with partial parts and service records, refurbishment photos, tools, owner’s and parts manuals, removed side and rear-wheel stands, a period ad, a 1929 New York license plate, and transferable registration.
The bike and sidecar are finished in green, with the fuel tank, fenders, and sidecar undergoing hammer work and welding before repainting. The bike features a teardrop fuel tank, a tool canister, a brown leather solo saddle, a rear luggage rack with a brown leather doctor’s bag for tools, and a four-tube “Pipes O’ Pan” exhaust system. The sidecar includes brown vinyl-upholstered seating with armrests, a fender, a hinged access door, a passenger foot brace, leaf spring suspension, and an outboard running light. Black-painted 18″ rims, laced with stainless-steel spokes by Buchanan’s Spoke & Rim in 2021 (sidecar rim replaced), are fitted with Coker tires from the 2000s. Suspension comprises a springer front fork and a rigid rear with a seat spring, while braking is handled by drums at both ends. The rig was professionally detailed in 2024, showcasing its restored condition.
The black handlebar features a right-side twist-grip throttle, a left-side twist-grip spark control, a rearview mirror, and twin Solar Cycle headlamps flanking a Delco-Remy Klaxon-II horn. The 1929-specific sculpted dash panel includes keyed ignition and light switches, an ammeter, and an ornamental map light. The sidecar’s leaf spring suspension enhances passenger comfort, and the rig’s design ensures period authenticity.
The 989cc F-head V-twin, rebuilt in 2004 by Competition Distributing in Sturgis, South Dakota, features an intake-over-exhaust (IOE) design, a Schebler DeLuxe carburetor, and a robust four-tube exhaust. Power is transferred to the rear wheel via a chain-driven final drive, with the hand-shifted transmission and rocker foot clutch providing a classic riding experience. The engine, stamped 29JC10557 on the left case, confirms its 1929 Model J origin.
